Obtaining a high school diploma is vital to establishing a solid foundation toward a life of success and happiness.
Therefore, at Whitehall-Yearling High School, the teachers and staff are focused on cultivating an educational culture where everyone is focused and committed to helping students become prepared to compete for resources and be successful beyond our school and in their lives.
There are three very important WYHS expectations that will help our students maintain their focus and work hard to complete the necessary course work to obtain the skills, knowledge, and understanding of what it takes to be successful and happy.
The three expectations are:
(1) Come to school and be on time everyday. WYHS will be laser-focused on making sure students come to school everyday, be on time to school and their classes, and as a result will get the great education our teachers are working hard to plan and provide.
(2) Come to school dressed for success. WYHS has a dress code and students are expected to come to school in the proper attire. WYHS will be following the Whitehall City Schools student dress code. We believe that student attire has a direct correlation to their focus and willingness to work hard.
(3) Personal electronic devises and headphones are to be put away and turned off. The cell phone, headphones, and other electronic devises have become a MAJOR distraction to our educational process and lessons. Students will be expected to keep their phone and headphones off and out of sight in all areas of the school with the exception of their lunch period.
After auditing and analyzing how WYHS has performed, and reviewing the level of student achievement over the last five years, especially with helping students remain on track to graduate, it was determined that STUDENT ATTENDANCE, STUDENT ATTIRE, and STUDENT’S ELECTRONIC DEVICES have been key disturbances and challenges with the students’ focus, effort, and achievement. Let’s all work together to address these issues and ensure our kids get everything they can out of our school, stay focused, and work hard everyday to achieve their WHITEHALL-YEARLING HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.
Thank you for your cooperation, and as always GO RAMS!
Mr. Paul Smathers
